For the fifth year in a row, one of the largest pet adoption events in San Diego will be held the day before Valentine's Day, on Sunday, February 13, 2011. For the first time ever, the event will be held in the PETCO parking lot, across the street from the Sports Arena/Swap Meet.

The purpose of this free event is to help the people find the love of their life in one convenient place. With 150 dogs for adoption, it'll be impossible not to find the perfect match.

The economy has been hard on companion animals. They are the silent victims who have been given up by their owners because they can no longer afford housing, food, or veterinary care.

"Every year, this event gets bigger and bigger because there are more fabulous, well-behaved dogs and puppies for adoption than ever before," says Darlene White, Executive Director of the San Diego Animal Support Foundation. "Most animals in our rescues and shelters aren't there because they had a problem, but because their owners had problems."

Approximately 150 adoptable dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages will be in attendance at this year's event. "We’ll have everything from puppies to mellow, easygoing senior dogs”, says White. "There's no excuse for feeling unloved on Valentine's Day!"

Dogs adopted at the event will go home with treats, food, gift certificates, shampoo/conditioner, toys, and more!

Matchmakers from the following organizations will be on hand to help you find the love of your life: Chula Vista Animal Shelter * San Diego Spaniel Rescue * Labradors & Friends Dog Rescue * Pit Bull Rescue San Diego * The Barking Lot * Aussies and Others Rescue * Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego * A Passion For Paws Akita Rescue * Friends of Humane Society de Tijuana * San Diego Bulldog Rescue * Escondido Humane Society * Boxers N Birds Animal Rescue and Adoption * Even Chance Pit Bull Advocacy, Resources & Rescue * Second Chance Dog Rescue * It’s The Pits, Pit Bull Rescue * San Diego Bulldog Rescue * German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue *And More.....

In addition to dogs for adoption, there will be experts, vendors, raffle prizes, and information about volunteering and fostering. For more information, visit www.SDShelters.org or call 619-847-8755.

About San Diego Animal Support Foundation: The SDASF is a private non-profit, 501c3 organization founded in 1998 to help raise money for the County shelters. Since then, they expanded to help all respected, legitimate shelters and rescue agencies in the San Diego County area. The main goal is to help get animals from these organizations adopted, via massive adoption events, website promotion, social networking and daily television pet segments which feature an adoptable animal each morning on the local news. We also work to educate the public about proper pet care, and the benefits of spaying and neutering. We assist pet owners to raise money to help with medical bills, and assist the underprivledged with free spay/neuter services in order to curb pet overpopulation.
